The Need
A Vital Facility
The new YMCA will position the town as a modern municipality, encourage further business development and stimulate the competitiveness of the region.
Our First Step
The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay commissioned reports by Architecture49 Inc., which saw the completion of a facilities audit, financial analysis, building designs and extensive public consultation.
Responding to Community Growth
The findings of the report highlighted concerns with current infrastructure and indicated the need for a centrally-located modern, accessible, environmentally-friendly, and multi-use centre to provide wellness supports.
The Need for Modern Infrastructure
The current recreational facilities in Happy Valley-Goose Bay require extensive renovations including the E.J. Broomfield Memorial Arena and the Labrador Training Centre, which is a provincially-operated building.
Strong Regional Support
Through the public consultation process, the Town received nearly 1,000 survey responses from the community illustrating overwhelming support for the development of a new centre that can provide wellness supports to people in the community and surrounding areas.
