The Project

A Community-Driven Approach

The Strengthening Our Communities Campaign is an initiative led by the YMCA, the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay and business leaders who have volunteered time and resources to raise philanthropic funds to build a much-needed centre that offers wellness supports and child care.

The new YMCA will be a modern, accessible centre that will offer programming to support the wellness ambitions of the people of Happy Valley-Goose Bay and surrounding communities. It will bring people together by eliminating inclusion barriers and isolation, while satisfying the critical need to improve wellness supports in the growing region.

The overall cost of this community project is $26.6 million, but with overwhelming support from early government and business partners, the campaign has $5 million left to raise.

With a strong Campaign Cabinet of business and community leaders, this initiative is aiming to raise the remaining funds, and to open the new YMCA off Hamilton River Road by April of 2021.
